A STAR IS BORN

The city of Tampere is set to transform with the introduction of the new tram system. Areas previously isolated are now connected and city residents will be able to travel with a new ease and speed. The city would like to build a landmark along the Tampere Tramway and Hervanta main road to celebrate this monumental event.

We proposed the insertion of a monumental artwork entitled “A star is born”. The star is often associated with change as well as the aspirations, Inspirations, Dreams, and Creative Pursuits that live within each one of us. We wanted to ensure that our proposal relates to the visual changes that will take place within the streetscapes of the city as a result of the new tram network. With this in mind we have designed the artwork by imagining a star formed from tram tracks. Strip lighting fills the slot of the tram tracks within the artwork. This gives the artwork a striking appearance in the darkness while also emphasising the flow that takes place along these tracks.
