A pearl is a symbol of something that is valued and rare. In Tampere a pearl can symbolise the unique industrial history of the city as well as the red brick architecture which the city centre is well known for. According to a recent survey, Tampere is the most attractive city in Finland and 36% of Finns aged 15-79 would consider living in the city.

The artwork consists of a steel sphere structure which is covered with red bricks. Designed for a roundabout, the artwork creates a pearl like monument that celebrates the city’s industrial past as well as the forward looking, dynamic and attractive city that Tampere is today.
